Customizing Your Excel Screen

• Your on-screen work space is an important component of any computer.
• All programs come with a default view of that workspace, but may be changed at any time.
• In Excel, you may choose how many toolbars are displayed and which features will be easily available to you.

Selecting Toolbars
• Toolbars are shortcut-buttons to all the commands available. There are over 20 toolbars in Excel, each one containing buttons for different types of tasks.
• You may turn these toolbars on or off at any time.
1. To turn on or off any toolbar, click on View, then Toolbars, then Customize.

2. All of Excel's toolbars are displayed here, just left-click in any box to turn that particular toolbar on or off.
3. Try turning all of the toolbars on, then all of them off.
4. Settle on a happy medium of toolbars you know you will use often, such as Standard, Formatting, and
Drawing.

Note: You don’t need to turn on every toolbar you think you will need. Some toolbars, such as Chart and Picture, are smart toolbars and will appear automatically when you need them, allowing you to not clutter up the screen with toolbars you aren’t actively using.

Introduction

Excel is a spreadsheet application that allows you to organize, analyze, and then present data.
Excel was designed for a user to input data onto worksheets, format that worksheet to make it easy to read
and attractive, and then create a report based on that user input. While its primary purpose is that of a
spreadsheet it can also be used for many different purposes.
Excel is a good program for creating smaller databases and its text formatting features rival those
of word processing programs. Including in depth statistical analysis functions, Excel is a very
comprehensive spreadsheet program but is easy enough to allow novice computer users to enter data and
create reports and charts based on those numbers.
